OH Yeah Forgot
Tomorrow is the dentist check up and cleaning!Scared but happy and hopeful for good report!
Lazy Talking Tuesday
Today I subbed for a science class and all they had to do is follow the ELMO and write the notes down which I thought would be a cinch for junioirs and seniors. But no of course there's a sub. They couldn't even take down 3 sentences in 10 minutes and I even shortened the 31/2 pages to 21/2 pages and they complained I was to fast and giving them way to many notes. All they did was complain while fooling around.
The good thing is that one girl student did magage to notice that I haven't been subbing in the major building for awhile and asked me how I'v been and my Thanksgiving, etc. I told her they've been sending me over to the freshman building most of the time this year. And one guy said freshman are the worst. I told him they have to get use the rules just like you did.
I wrote up a few who were acting out n in class and then left note saying we left off in notes. So he'll know it was mostly their fault they weren't prepared for the notebook chapter quiz they'll be getting Thursday.

GOOD DAYS AHEAD
I just picked up another three days for the 7,9, and 10th of December. One freshman class BUT on Tuesday and a two day math class. Now my gifts are covered and one day for the dentist appointment I have on Wednesday. Now I only need two more days the week before vacation break for the gas and the other part of the dentist bill coming. I'll hand out my cards the 10th just in case I don't work that last week, and I'll be okay with that to I'll just transfer that third say for gas and pay the dentist with savings. My mouth health is still okay. No flare up and I have been staying on top of my regime for stress relief.

Relaxation works Stress Sucks
Well since I've been home for three days now my Bruxsim is really vanishing or at least very unnoticable now at night. The trick is wearing that mouth guard at night and warm rag over face before you fall asleep.
I am not a real Xmas shopper and so was not out shopping today with Black Friday but I did go to Winn Dixie and pick up a bag of dog snacks for my dog. Any one know where I can get a Kong snake dog toy for < $10 in price. And I will be sending out a few dvds on my dvd exchange site hoping to finally get that dvd set I need to help me finish my media workbook. I have been outbid on Ebay too many times for a USED set no less. Outrageous. I will not exceed my limit just to get it. I promised myself I would stick to my budget this holiday season. I have a cool music lesson planned if I get called in before Xmas. The objective is knowing the difference between a carol and song using Stings' "If On a Winters Night" CD.
At least the next two assignemnts are in the major building and not in the new 600 building with the crazy freshman. So I'll hopefully be fine before the Xmas holidays. All I need is another fourdays before break and I'll be covered .

Workbook Vote
Okay getting ready to post my first outline for you. There is a choice to be made should I post from chapter 1 or midway through the textbook at ch20. You vote and send me your vote in the comment section. The winner choice will be posted. Ch1 is on the cell and scientists, etc. Ch20 has to do with bacteria and viruses.
This will dictate what I will be putting up, or if you'd like we can have a vote every week on what chapter to post up. Let me know what you think?

TGIF it's the day B4 Thanksgiving Vacation
Today wasn't to bad. Surprisngly my freshman class was better behaved than my sophomore-senior classes. I didn't have a class free and it was my first B lunch period this school year. I thought maybe I had to catch a bus home but my mother was feeling good when I called her at 11am on my lunch break. I was reading in my Prevention magazine on break that stress relievers include the flavinoids of dark choclaote and cuddling up with your pet. I am going to be eating my dads Doves a lot more and sharing a lot more time with my dog on those stressful days. Two more weapons to add to my arsenal. I am hoping the dentist says my teeth look good to hold off on the new guards for awhile. Justl ike I did for my bifocials. I waited another three years to get them after my first diagnosis of neeeding them. Now I have five days off til I work. I have to work a few more days for the last few Xmas gifts after vacation and for my dental appointment also. More good news my mother says we are having the garage sale after the holiday instead of decorating. We don't have the time and energy to do both. But we'll wait and see -she did the same thing last year and now we have more stuff to get rid off. I'll let you know what happens .

Attack of the Killer Tongue
Yep a full blown bruxism attach finally rared it's ugly head last night. My tongue was so sore at the tip I was up for 31/2 last nght and had to pass on a morning call in assignment (freashman math on a Monday-no way!) and have made up that day I had lost last month. But on the brighter side I scheduled a dental appointment for next week for a check up and to talk about mouth guards. Finally, I am hoping it'll cover the bottom teeth and end the tongue rubbing problem I have. This will keep me working for while longer. I still need a less stressful job. The students have been getting worse and worse each year ever since the redistricting that has given us more non whites and less whites students. Plus kids in genral have been getting worse in behavior just by all the harassing and bulting they do. I am starting my workbook earlier-in fact this past weekend I have been organizing and putting it together and will continue on into Xmas vacation.
Oh ,Friday was able to get the world history run down from a text in the study hall class I was subbing for.
So that's all the news here.
Have a nice night!

Decisons have been Made
I have decided to cut stress down and stop the wear on my dental and oral health after Xmas in Jauaury of 2011 I will no longer accept assignments on Mondays and Fridays of freshman classes. I will also be working on my book all during Xmas Vacation. It's worth the cut back since it might keep me working longer. Also if I have to move home to Buffalo I have decided to look for a less stressful job I have experience and connections with once before.

Fresh Friday
Today I thought iwould be a breeze but I managed to get through with a little help from a basketball game even though I was WRONG.
I had two classes of sophomore but the second class was a handful and some. I was warned but that period dragged on like molasses for me. Then the last periods were freshman but the last one had early relaese due to a free basketball game on campus at 130PM and that class was bleep since all they did was talk and wait for the announcement. I am so glad to be home and relaxing becasue my buxsim has flared up again with tall the tension. I just hope the second half of the year will be better. I have been doing all the tension relief practices I read about to relieve it at home but can't do those at work. It took all summer to heal and now it flared again. I hope my writting takes of this summer and I can retire to writting. The minute my assignemnts go down to one day a week it also won't be worth going in for at all also. So cross your fingers and pray for nicer acting kids or a book deal. Have a nice night!

DOING FINE BUT COULD BE FINER
I have eight days this month so far but one more day to help pay the gas to my mom who carpools me every work day would be appreciated. And three more days in December would pay for all my Xmas gifts I still need to buy. Today I had those oh so loud freshman and took over a music class in my free period that was just as noisy but it went faster then usual. I stroke out on cookie day though. They didn't have my favorite chocolate with Resee Pieces and when I picked the second kind, double choclaote chunk they were even out of chocolate chip. Why don't they ever learn after the last two years to make my cookies for me?
I have an assignment tommorow with sohpomores thank god even though it's another full day. Still waiting for Monday assignemnt before Thanksgivng break since I picked up the lost Tuesday before it already.
Have a good night.

Bad News
The garage sale is defintely off due to family health problems. I am going into plan B listing things on the web for sale. I have a few things listed on craigslist and Amazon already , so please feel free to ask about them here as well. This also means I'll also have avialble lesson palns. Just follow the objectives and headings in the textbook I mentioned and ask for them by name (for example, 1.2 meaning chapter 1 section 2, etc.) The whole book is still incomplete that I"ll be working on those parts during Xmas vacation. But chapters and sections are available. Please help this starving part time substitute out. I feel a Buxsim strike coming on tonight. Time to put the guard in all night and sleep on my stomache and pray to the almighty healing gods to save me from pain. LOL!

One Bad Friday
I thought today was going to be good day because I had first block off, A lunch, and small number students in every class. WRONG! The second block had a 99% of the class tardy plus the boys who were late never settlted down and were throwing paper balls across the room. After three attempts I had to call the administrator so I could instruct the rest on their lesson. Then in sixth block everyhting just fell part the last half hour. Now I usuually give the kids a little more slack on Fridays but today they just wanted more but I was not giving it to them no matter what day it was. Freshman will be freshman I guess. Tonight I will be taking aspirin and meditating to be relaxed to release all that stress I bound up so that my Buxism will not bite me during my sleep tonight.
Have a nice night!

Literature in My Life
As a kid the fiurst set of books I owned and regretfully lost was a set of 5 Beatrix Potter books from her collection, when I was in first grade. That same year Dr. Suess was popular with his "Cat in the Hat", "Are You My Mother?" and other books. Later in junior high there was the Dell book club and Scholastic book club where I was allowed either two books or $5 worth. I always got fun books, nothing educational. In the school library there was one really cute book I loved to take out at least twice a year just to look at the cute artwork and cute storyline. I think it was Arnold Lobel's "Grasshoper Feast."
At home we had two sets of old family book sets that had fairytales and holidays tales. I just loved to page through them once in awhile even though the artwork was mostly black and white and a few color plates. I can't remembr the name of the sets, too bad. We had to sell those right before we moved down here. We aslo had the Life Nature Library and I loved to page through them and often went to them to get info for science reports and homework up until high school. We sold those in the garage sale too.
In high school I finally got to read those fiction books I bought from book club and then passed them on the school library with their permission.
In college I was able to start collecting books again like "The Best of Trek" series, novelizations of "Star Trek", "Star Trek Concordance", "Good News in Star Trek", and other nonfictional applications of Star Trek.I aslo picked up the 21 story volume of Beatrix Potter but am now looking to replace that with the full volume of 24 stories edition. Also I collect the Dr. Suees stories that I never had as kid; but today for his alliterations. It was then back in college where I grew to long MS. Frizzle and her Magic School Bus also and collect them now. These three authors are my idols. And I started to write my own stories at the age of 26. Regretfully I was rejected. And turned to a different route. But for those of you interetsed , like editors and agents here is the list:
Holiday Animal Treasury which is a set of 5 stories about the animals that are best remembeerd as the holiday symbol.
A set of 5 stories on how the flowers became the state flower.
A set of 4 (going to be 5) on natural history/science of the prehistoric time .
A abc concept book called By the Beach which is a pop up book. Before then I was published in my high school alma matar's literary magazine called "Kaliedoscope" with my poem "Falling Leaves".
Then had honorary mention in ILOP 1992 edition with my poem ""Did I Tell You?"
Later I used Beatrix Potters "The Tale of Jeremy Fischer" as lesson to teach pond life during a reading lesson in my elementary education course. That's how much I love literature.
During junior high a friend who was older turned me on to Star Trek . It has kept me warm and cozy on thses lonely nights ever since. At first I use to just love the original crew, but then NG came along and I was hooked and loved every incarnation of it.. I love the Kirk-Spock-McCoy relationship, how Data tries to be human, Dax's science expertise and her love for Worf, Belannas and 7s attempt to blend in with the rest of the crew, Archer and his dog Porthos along with T'Pol and Yoshi. I even love those cartoon crewmembers M'HRess and Lt. Arex. Yep I got it bad !LOL!!! I even submitted an episode but was rejected as usual.
Then one day I was watching a rerun of NG called "Genesis" and said to myself that would make a good video to demonstrate the intrans gene concept. Then I came across a tshirt that had the Larson misquitoes gorging on a human arm and said hey! that would be a good bellwork assignment on overeating and nutrition. Then I also saw Escher Metamorphosis II with the bees and hive and said that would make a great bellwork assignment on the metamorphosis of an insect. And the media biology workbook was born. I also added some Yahoo inetrnet articles and documentaries to supplement the objectives if they were lacking in a little bit of content. The rest is history as they say.
Have a good night!

Important People in my Life
Way back in elementary school my language arts teacher who was very liberated , Ms.Lois Harvey let me and my BBF pal around together and be her teacher pets. We did the usual CHALKBOARD cleaning, bullentin boards and even Scholastic and Dell Book club distrubutions. In hindsight I think she followed the Maxine Green theory of teaching. It was always fun in her classroom. And today as a sub I take that same approach because it mades it easier for me and allows me to keep my job. When I started subbing though I took the strict teaching method but we all know that doesdn't work with subs. The kids bleep all over you and I would have ended a short job stint and be unemployed. I wanted to keep working that was important so I used a relaxed frendly approach to subbing. right after the first week way back in 1998.
The second important person was a sub teacher who replaced the old man teacher who was boring and made science hell because the boys would just get him to tell war stories. His name was Alphonso Ruggiero and he made me like science and we becane his teachers pet to but to the consternation of the adminstration because we violated their precious teachers area to use the ditto machine (the old roll the handle type) back then. So ended that but it didn't hamper my love for science. He later became the tv writer of "Seven Days" tv series, and looks back on those days as the worst two years of his lfe. It's to bad we doesn'tknow what he did for me. From then on science kept be going through all the bad times of my life and right on to a BA in biology and still is doing that old black magic to me today.
In high school there was a kind biology teacher named Maryjo Aiken who let me bring in wild clover to the bunnies in the lab. She knew I was a outcast from the rest and let me do my thing for the animals. She had come great science electives. One was Project class where we designed and carried our own reseasrch project. I chose a simple one where I compared fertilizing with just water for plant growth. It was great. Then there was another one called Disease, and we took samples from all over the school, and I went to ther restroom and actually but accdentally grew E. Coli, they had to quickly auotclave it before it got out. That was fun. In another science class (with a different teacher) and with all seniors because I was trying not to take chemistry or physics; we had a project top write a scifi story based on science theory and I wrote about a mermen socitey (we are born from the water theory) perspective. I got a B+ ans was disspointed because I was helping all the seniors out who ended with As. But again science still reigned supreme with me. The in college there are three professors who taught from their own authured textbooks . Here the work was tough. Bs and Cs mostly and one D but I kept with it. Those professors were: Dr. William Scheafler who taught Biometrics, Dr. Fred Price who taught Molecular Biology, and Dr. James Spotilla who is responsible for deveopling the theory that dinosaurs are indeed warm blooded who taught Cold Blooded Invertbrates.
Now when I sub I still oeew teachers alot. At BSH there are a few teachers who always request me each year and I look forward to those assignments and they include:
Paul Champagne who teaches world music, drumming, and is the school band leader.
Lynne H. Champagne who teaches music, choir, keyboards, and rap.
Larry Wilson who teaches Language Arts and heads up the yearbook staff.
Kimberly Cook who is one of the many Physical Ed teachers and coaches there.
Rick Wilson who teaches Physical Science.
Stanley Schuster who besides teaches Geography, Amercian History and Economics, hails from my hometown as well.Without them I probbaly wouldn't work as half as long as I do a year. So many thanks go out to them too.
So you see how science and education have been my foundation for along time.
The next people I hope to have innfluence on me are you, workbbook editors and literary agents out there who happen to find this blog entry and do something about it.

I have been subbing now for 11 years but with the new subs that have come in and taken over my turf a bit and I am very unhappy with the number of days I am working a week. Not bearly enough to make a living. This has been stressing me out lately along with a few other things and all triggeered by Buxism and my tongue as a consequence is torn to shreds. It never did this til now. So I know I am super stressed. I am looking to make some money for the holidays in a garage sale in the next month but things have been really hectic around the the house. So all alleys are covered but look bleak. This is my last ditch attemp to make a living essentailly.
By the way the lesson plans in this workbook follow Holt, Rhinehart and Winstons' Biology Principles and Practices textbook, and have Florida Sunshine Standards and National Science Standards matched with them.
They also have Yahoo internet articles along with some videos. There are also a few standard documentraies in the workbook as well.

My Bio
Hi !My name is Peggy Palmeri ansd I am currently a sub teacher in Manatee County in Bradenton, Fl. I work at Bayshore High School and have been told by the kids I am their favorite sub. But these hard econonmical times have lead be to write this blog as way to promote my new project. A Biology Media Workbook that feartures Star Trek episodes, Far Side gag cartoons and Escher prints to impart basic principles of Biology. It's almost completed. Just organizing the material.
